Second Reading Romans 8:22-30
We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now
and not only that,
Because of original sin, all of creation bears the burden of decay and death.
1. we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
We who have begun to experience eternal life through faith and baptism, experience the pain of longing for the fulfillment of our redemption when our bodies are restored in the resurrection.
For in hope we were saved. Now hope that sees for itself is not hope. For who hopes for what one sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance.
The fact of our redemption from sin and resurrection to new life through the saving merits of Jesus Christ crucified, is our hope. However until this hope is realized, we must bear the trials of this life with patience.
2. The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes with inexpressible groanings.
The Holy Spirit helps us because we don't always know what to pray for or the words to use to express our prayers. The Spirit intercedes for us by praying through us as we pray in the Spirit.
And the One who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will.
The Father, who sees what is in our hearts, understands what the Spirit is saying through us as the Spirit prays on our behalf.
3. We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
Furthermore, we know that our Father makes all things work for our good because he loves us and we love him.
For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified.
Because it was God's plan when he created us that we should become like Jesus Christ his Son and share in all blessings and glory of his only begotten Son.
